ATM availability and use has increased dramatically during the last 10 years. Unfortunately, ATM crime has also increased. For your security, safety and convenience, we suggest that you follow these safety tips.
ATM Safety Tips
- Commit your PIN to memory and never share your PIN.
- Never write your PIN on your ATM card
- As you approach an ATM, be aware of your surroundings. Look around, be aware of people waiting in parked cars. Try to use ATMs during daylight hours.
- Wait until you leave the ATM to count your money. When you have completed your transaction be sure the ATM screen is clear, you have your card, and you have your receipts. Don't leave your ATM receipts at the ATM or dispose of them in the trash receptacle near an ATM. Keep your ATM transaction receipts until you match them against your monthly statements.
- Immediately report a lost or stolen card to the bank.
Walk-Up ATM Safety Tips
- Have your card and transaction documents ready when you approach the ATM.
- Wait until previous customers have finished their transactions and have moved away from the machine.
- Stand close to the ATM when entering your PIN. Be suspicious of anyone who stands too close or tries to look over your shoulder.
Drive-Up ATM Safety Tips
- Pull up close to the ATM.
- Remain in your car with the doors locked, and open only the driver's window.
- Keep your car running while operating the ATM.
